Materi Bahasa Inggris Kelas 8 Chapter I It’s English time! Pada bagian ini, cerita akan difokuskan pada kegiatan-kegiatan di sekitar lingkungan kelas dan juga sekolah. Kegiatan-kegiatan yang ada pun difokuskan kepada orang-orang yang berada dekat dengan peserta didik. Ungkapan-ungkapan yang disampaikan di dalam bab ini diharapkan dapat terus digunakan dalam keseharian
proses pembelajaran, baik oleh guru maupun peserta didik.

Fokus Tahapan Pembelajaran: Mengamati

  • Pembukaan dilakukan dengan menggunakan halaman pertama dalam bab ini. Gunakan teknik ‘Membuka Pembelajaran per Bab’ yang ada di bagian Petunjuk Pengarah.
  • Pada halaman pertama ini, disajikan mengenai materi utama yang akan dipelajari pada bab ini, mencakup: to get attention, to check if we are understood, to show appreciation to others, and to tell what we or other people think of something.
  • Pada halaman pertama pun muncul sebuah pernyataan, “From now on I will use English in the English class.”
  • Pernyataan ini menunjukkan sebuah semangat untuk mengaplikasikan bahasa Inggris, khususnya di dalam kelas bahasa Inggris.

Kompetensi Dasar Bahasa Inggris Kelas 8 Chapter I

Pembelajaran sikap spiritual dan sikap sosial dilakukan melalui pembelajaran tidak langsung (indirect teaching) yaitu keteladanan, pembiasaan, dan budaya sekolah dengan memperhatikan karakteristik pembelajaran, serta kebutuhan dan kondisi peserta didik.

3.1 Menerapkan fungsi sosial, struktur teks, dan unsur kebahasaan teks interaksi interpersonal lisan dan tulis yang melibatkan tindakan meminta perhatian, mengecek pemahaman, menghargai kinerja, meminta dan mengungkapkan pendapat, serta menanggapinya, sesuai dengan konteks penggunaannya.

4.1 Menyusun teks interaksi interpersonal lisan dan tulis sangat pendek dan sederhana yang melibatkan tindakan meminta perhatian, mengecek pemahaman, menghargai kinerja, serta meminta dan mengungkapkan pendapat, dan menanggapinya dengan memperhatikan fungsi sosial, struktur teks, dan unsur kebahasaan yang benar dan sesuai konteks.

Asking attention/Meminta perhatian adalah ungkapan yang digunakan untuk meminta perhatian dari seseorang. Giving attention/Memberi Perhatian adalah ungkapan yang digunakan untuk memberikan perhatian/respon.

Asking for attention

Mrs. Susi : The material that should be learned is from Chapter 1 until chapter 4. Don’t forget to enrich you vocabularies with exercise!

2. Checking the understanding

Materi Bahasa Inggris Kelas 8 Semester I setelah Asking for Attention, yang kedua adalah Checking for Understanding. Checking for undertanding adalah ungkapan atau ekspresi yang digunakan untuk mengecek pemahaman seseorang atau lawan bicara kita mengenai apa yang kita sampaikan kepadanya. Respon yang diberikan bisa positif (paham) atau negatif (tidak paham).

1.  Checking for understanding (Mengecek Pemahaman)

Tiara      : Okay, Mom. I will go there by a motorcycle
Mother  : All right. And please don’t forget to buy ginger at Mak Sumi’s shop.

3. Showing Appreciation/Compliments

Showing appreciation adalah ungkapan yang digunakan untuk memberi penghargaan atau pujian atau komentar terhadap seseorang mengenai penampilan, prestasi, dan sebagainya.

Untuk memberi pujian atau kekaguman kepada seseorang kita dapat menggunakan kalimat kekaguman dengan menggunakan “How/What”. How atau what di sini bukan berarti kata tanya atau question word tetapi berati “Alangkah, betapa atau sungguh”

How smart you are! (Betapa pintarnya kamu)
How clean this room is! (Sungguh bersih ruangan ini)
What a kind man he is! (Betapa baiknya laki-laki itu)

What an expensive motorcycle it is! (Alangkah mahalnya sepeda motor itu)
What cheap laptops they are! (Sungguh murah laptop-laptop itu)

4. Telling something what we think/Opinion

Pembelajaran siswa SMP/MTs mengenai ekspresi. Ekspresi yang mengungkapkan mengenai permintaan pendapat, memberi pendapat dan merespon pendapat tersebut.

Ahdi  : I think Smoking is not good for our health.
Ari     : I think so.

3. Hani : Do you think it will rain today?
Aryoso  : I guess it is going to rain today because the sky is cloudy.
Hani      : I don’t think so, The sun still shines.

4. Paul: how do you feel about the 2014 election?
Likha  : I believe that there’ll be many “golput”. Many people don’t trust the leaders in this country anymore. They have corrupted.
Paul     : I disagree. As a good citizen we must choose our leader.

5. Mr. Amir  : Look, everybody. I have a new English book. What do you think about it?

Ridho            : In my opinion, it is such an expensive book.

Mr. Amir      : Very good. How about you Gani?

Gani              : Well, I think it’s OK. I like that. It’s not thick and no expensive.

Mr. Amir      : Good. Anybody has another opinion?

Hadi             : Yes, I have. My opinion is that the book is too thick.

Mr. Amir    : Good. All your answers are correct. Do you understand, students?

Students    : Yes, sir.

Mr. Amir   : Great. You’re really smart.

Students   :  Thank you.
